Our skin is constantly renewing itself through production of new skin cells, connective tissue, and collagen, which refers to replacing older skin with healthy and living cells. However, the cell turnover process often slows down as our bodies aren't always so efficient when it comes to sloughing away old skin cells. Sometimes, such cells may sit at the surface of our dermis, causing dullness, patchiness or discoloration.  

Exfoliation becomes key to cleanse out such accumulated dead cells. When we exfoliate, we help our skin get rid of the dead cells stuck to the outermost layers, which allows fresher, younger and glowing skin cells to re-emerge, getting the bright glowing skin back to the surface.  

The process helps to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation by removing surface cells stained with pigment, making the skin appear fresh and clear. It is however, important to use exfoliants correctly and not get carried away as over-exfoliation can lead to inflammation and start the hyperpigmentation process all over again.
