Science

Sensitive skin is a genetic skin type that mostly gets affected by internal stimulators, whereas sensitized skin refers to a skin condition where it becomes hyperreactive due to external stimulators. Both have similar symptoms such as redness, itchiness, stinginess, etc. and cause the skin to flush easily due to the lack of strong protective barrier. As the skin is unable to retain the required moisture for normal functioning, it leads to dehydration and radical breakouts.  

The skin also tends to become sensitive with age or due to the lack of efficiency in replacing the protective barrier made from natural oils known as lipid barrier. This decreases the tolerance level of the skin caused by microscopic openings.
